-Taught by Dr. Sandy Doran

The term “word work” has often been used as a catch-all for a collection of unrelated assignments that students complete in grammar, spelling, and phonics.

In the first lesson of this course, you will learn the importance of delivering a coherent word work program that sequentially and systematically moves students forward from their baselines in phonics, spelling, and writing.

In the next lesson, you will watch a writer’s workshop in action and gain skills for improving student writing. Finally, in our last lesson, you will tie everything together with a summary of balanced literacy. And as usual, you will come away with an array of materials to immediately download for use in planning and teaching.

In this course, teachers will:

  • Learn how to deliver the Word Work and Writer’s Workshop components of Balanced Literacy as a curricular methodology to underline good reading and writing instruction
